G0402 National Incident Management System (NIMS) Overview for Senior Officials (Executive, Elected and Appointed)
Goal: The purpose of this training is to familiarize Senior Officials with their role in supporting incident management within the National Incident Management system (NIMS).
Objective: Upon completion of the course, senior officials will be able to explain NIMS tenets and the role of the four command and coordination entities: Incident Command System (ICS), Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Multiagency Coordination (MAC) Group and Joint Information System (JIS).
Target Audience: Senior Officials (executives, elected, appointed, city/county managers and agency administrators).
Duration: 4 hours. Course is designed to elicit engagement through a series of discussions, questions, and answers.
Outcome: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the National Incident Management System
- Explain the NIMS Management Characteristics, the organizational structure of the Incident Command System, and the role of the General and Command staff
- Understand the concepts of Unified Command and Area Command
- Explain the attributes and purpose of Emergency Operations Centers
- Speak to the interconnectivity and response roles of ICS, EOC, MAC group and JIS
- Explain the senior official’s role in preparedness
