Remain Vigilant During Holiday Weekend: 'If You See Something, Say Something'

Chicago – The City of Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) and the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) are reminding residents to remain vigilant during Memorial Day weekend. Both departments are stressing the importance of the “If You See Something, SaSomething”™ anti-terrorism campaign, urging residents to call 9-1-1 or notify on-site security for any immediate threats to life or property or report any non-emergency suspicious activity by calling 855-RPRT-2-S4, the official local number of the campaign.

“We are all responsible for safeguarding our community,” said Alicia Tate-Nadeau, executive director of OEMC. “While there are no known credible threats to Chicago at this time, we must all remain vigilant.”

“Our residents are our first line of defense in identifying and reporting any threats to public safety,” said William Barnes, executive director of DHSEM. “Always be aware of your surroundings and do not hesitate to alert authorities to anything that appears suspicious.”

OEMC and DHSEM launched the “If You See Something, Say Something”™ campaign in 2015 in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Locally they have partnered with transit agencies, colleges and the faith-based community to help promote the program to residents on public transportation, in schools, at events and at other public and private spaces around the community. Additionally, the City and County launched a radio and digital campaign to reinforce the importance of reporting suspicious activity to authorities.
