President Preckwinkle Announces Cook County COVID-19 Donation Initiative
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced today a new donation program to accept unused personal protective equipment (PPE) for first responders and medical staff.
 
The program will be overseen by the County’s Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS). Logistics for the initiative will be managed by the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways (DoTH). Donated equipment will be distributed to municipalities, first responders and healthcare workers based on priority and need.

Cutting red tape to get vital resources to communities being impacted by COVID-19, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today issued an executive order accelerating the County’s ability to accept supplies, equipment and other donations from private partners, corporations and individuals.
 
The move by President Preckwinkle aims to get critical materials to vulnerable communities in need of emergency assistance by allowing the Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) to more rapidly accept and distribute donations.

President Preckwinkle Issues Cook County Proclamation for COVID-19 Response

Building on its coordinated and collaborative approach to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle today signed a disaster proclamation, a proactive measure giving County officials another operational tool in its continuing response efforts.

The proclamation will enhance the County’s ability to access the resources, equipment and personnel needed to address ongoing and changing circumstances on the ground. This is particularly necessary should the number of COVID-19 cases rise and the demands on County staff and partners continue to increase.

This weekend’s weather system has the potential to bring significant rainfall, ice, freezing rain, snow, flooding, high winds and high waves on the Lake Michigan shoreline.
 
Flooding is expected along the lakefront, and heavy precipitation may cause flooding of area rivers and waterways. Main stem river, tributary, and small stream flooding may occur, with flash flooding possible. Flooding is also possible on roads and in viaducts.
